Devilal Puri has a special affinity with education. An “A” student during his school days, Puri is teaching in the same community where he grew up and where he first learned to read and write forty years ago.
He was one of the first students from his village. Because there were no schools in the small hamlet called Gaikhura in Ramechhap district of Nepal, he would wake up at five and walk nearly two hours to get to his school in another village. Despite the hardship, he considered himself extremely lucky.
