Sanumaya Lama is sitting in a corner of her classroom with a book in her hands. The storybook is titled: “While out foraging for food”. There’s a picture of a chicken in the cover. The book is based on the adventures of a mother hen as she goes about finding food for her little chicks. The school has ended and Sanumaya is waiting, along with her sister, Chyangba Lama, 11, and brother, Gajab Singh Lama, who is nine years old, for her mother to go home together. When Sanumaya finishes the story she places the book back in the wooden rack and picks up another and flips through it.
