Keeping families healthy in Nepal

Sep 24, 2015

Since 2009, UNICEF Nepal, FHI 360 and other partners have supported the Ministry of Health and Population to provide and expand community-based Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (CB-PMTCT) services.

By offering HIV testing in antenatal care at lower level health posts, more women can access PMTCT services closer to home, saving them hours of travel.

Through the CB-PMTCT programme, pregnant women living with HIV receive counseling, adherence support and access to condoms, iron pills and tetanus vaccines.

With increased access to PMTCT services, more children are born HIV-free.
